Ce poème écrit à Saint-Denis de la Réunion est un vibrant plaidoyer en faveur de la présence de la France à Madagascar. Démonstration en deux temps : 1. La France glorieuse se doit d'étendre son influence sur le monde. 2. Les peuples de Madagascar, soumis aux impitoyables Hova (selon l'auteur), n'attendent que d'être libérés de ce joug par la France généreuse. Mû par un volontarisme naïf, le poème n'est pas non plus signé par Victor Hugo... François Saint-Amand ne trouve d'ailleurs une place que dans les marges de la littérature réunionnaise.
