Direct covalent stepwise assembly of two different polymers produces core-shell silica particles. After core removal, the multilayer microcapsules show a unique loading of FITC-dextran. The positively charged species inside the capsules are confirmed to be the driving force, and the deposition of additional layers demonstrates permeation blocking.
