โฆ Synopsis
Hierarchical structures of a liquid crystalline (LC) diblock copolymer were aligned using shear flow. The smectic layers of the LC block showed coexisting parallel and perpendicular orientations. Tuning the flow conditions allows one to systematically increase the fraction of domains oriented in a parallel manner. Further details can be found in the article by A. Laiho, P. Hiekkataipale, J. Ruokolainen, and O. Ikkala* on page 1218.
Back Cover: Radical copolymerization of N-substituted maleimides with isobutene was studied because of the facile formation of alternating copolymers with high molecular weight and the modification of their thermal, optical, and mechanical properties. The viscoelastic properties of the copolymers with n-alkyl and v-carboxy-n-alkyl groups as the N-substituents were investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis. Further details can be found in the article by A. Omayu, S. Yoshioka, and A. Matsumoto* on page 1210.
