Abstract

The Great Recession has officially been declared to have ended in June 2009. Many companies are flush with cash. But it has been a jobless recovery, and consumers have remained on the sidelines during the recession and weak recovery. Companies may remain cautious until consumers begin spending again. And instead of using their cash to repurchase stock or produce higher dividends for investors, many companies want to spend their cash buying other companies.
