5. m-loosenesses and screens

A screen (or filter-merotopy) on X is a set ~ C Fil X (where Fil X denotes the set of all filters (proper or not) in X) such that (S1) ~E® for xEX, ($2) ~E® and sC~'EFilX imply ~'E® (see e.g. [6]). For screens ~, ~' on X, ~ is said to be coarser than ~' (®' finer than ~.)iff ~ D ~l.

If a ¢oUection ~ C Fil:X contains, for each x E X, an element fixed at x, the filters finer thaa the elements of ~ constitute a screen for which ~ is a (screen) base.
