✦ Synopsis

The spectral parameters and quantum yields ofluminol, 3-aminophthalate and fluorescein in cetyltrimethylammonium chloride at various concentrations are reported, together with the solubilization sites in the micelles. Chemiluminescence energy transfer to fluorescein results in at least a tenfold increase in the intensity in the micellar system compared with that in the absence of fluorescein. The maximum percentage energy transfer from 3aminophthalate to fluorescein is 79% in chemiluminescence experiments but only 54% in fluorescence experiments under identical conditions. This difference is attributed to the different solubilization sites of the 3-aminophthalate (donor) added and the 3-aminophthalate produced during the light reaction. The theoretical treatment is in good agreement with the experimental results.
