Luminescence has been observed (lo the three lowest 5I levels) from 'G.. 'G,. 'F3 and 'FS. all sikated only about 2000 cm-' above Ihe next-lower !evel. demonslrating (together wirh tie 0.1 ms lifetime for green (5F4, '.5$) emission) an exceplional propensity for 4C " holmium(II1) to fluoresce in the fluoride glass.
