The interaction of neodymium(III) with acetate, alanine, hktidine, benzoate, and anthranilate has been %tudied using changes in the visible absorption spectrum of neodymium(II1) upon complexation. At pH's below 6 only the carboxyl group of alanine coordinates to the metal ion, whereas at pH's near 7
