A new structural family of rare earth oxyborates Na 2 Ln 2 (BO 3 ) 2 O (Ln β«Ψβ¬ Sm, Eu and Gd) is evidenced. The novel title compounds are prepared in about 90% yield by hydrothermal reaction of Ln2O3 with stoichiometric amounts of H3BO3 (H2O, 220 Β°C, autoclave, 3 d).
