Victor-Marie Hugo (* 26. Februar 1802 in Besançon; † 22. Mai 1885 in Paris) war ein französischer Schriftsteller. Er verfasste Gedichte sowie Romane und Dramen und betätigte sich als literarischer, aber auch politischer Publizist. Mehrfach war er, als Angehöriger der Pairskammer, Abgeordneter oder Senator, auch direkt politisch aktiv. Während er im deutschen Sprachraum weniger bekannt ist als etwa Molière, Voltaire oder Balzac, gilt er vielen Franzosen als ihr größter Autor überhaupt.
