โœฆ Synopsis

We supgest that the oscillator strength formula for polarizabilities together with only a fe\v acctttnte values for oscillator strengths can yield very good lower bounds for a number of ground and excited stittes. Better lower bounds are obtained for states in Li, Be and CHI for which the Weinhold formula has recently been applied by Sims and co-workers. Apphcation to n number of states whose polarizabilities were recently crlculated by very large Cl (Li. ILlg, K, Ca) or measured ELperimentally (Na), has yielded lower bounds which fall the of direct and

A simple extension of a method by Calogero and Marchioro for constructing lower bound problems for ground states of systems of indistinguishable particles is applied to atomic systems. Their method is extended to yield an improved lower bound problem, which raises the ground-state estimate and yield
