✦ Synopsis

An examination of the low frquency

Raman mttering from the ionic glasses of LiC103-LiiV03 and KNOs-Ca(NOJ)Z mixtures at liquid nitrogen temperatures demonstrates the maAed reduction in intensity near the exciting line that is expected on the basis of results of recent studies reported far various oxide glasses. The low temperature data as well as that measured for the corresponding liquid phases has been reduced for thermal effects, following the method of Shuker and Gammon which assumes disorder allowed fust order scattering. Most impressive is the nwb' pafect overlap of the experimental 100Β°K curve with the 333'K (Tg) spectrum of the nitrate mixture when the latter is reduced to 100Β°K. This observation affirms the validity of the reduction method and also the invariance of the intermolecular potential below Ts, A weakened intermolecular potential is reflected in the reduced form of tke spectra obtained above Tp.
