โฆ Synopsis
Polymerisation of condensed films of cyclopentadiene has been observed at low temperature (80-100 K) following irradiation with vacuum WV photons. The polymeric layers were characterised by thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) and UV photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). Polymeric structures were stable up to Tz 700 K, but the desorption of monomers in three relatively well-defined peaks in the range 350450 K suggests the presence ofoligomers in the layers. UPS spectra of polycyclopentadiene are reported, and the spectral fingerprints establish cyclopentene-type species as repetitive polymeric units.
