On cooling, an as-synthesized MFI siliceous zeolite presents a transition from orthorhombic to monoclinic form, at -175 K. This phase transition is evidenced by several techniques and is similar to that already known in calcined MFI zeolites.

The transition temperature (340 K) and enthalpy change (3.7 + 0.5 kJ mo1-1) of the monoclinic-orthorhombic phase transition in highly siliceous zeolite ZSM-5 (Si/AI = 639) were measured by differential scanning calorimetry (d.s.c.). The transition temperature determined is in agreement with that due
