Studies on low temperature nickelcatalysed gasification of various Indian coals were carried out to determine the effect of various parameters (coal rank, sulphur content, catalyst concentration, temperature) on the yield and quality of gas obtained. Higher catalyst loading and higher temperature fa

Although these results appear to be similar to the results of Warzinski et al." who have studied chemical desulphurization of coal using the oxydesulphurization process, more information regarding the long term oxidation of coal with H,O, will be needed to demonstrate any relation adequately. Clearly, the H,O, oxidation will need to be examined at times sufficient to lead to greater carbon oxidation in order to relate this oxidation to that observed under oxydesulphurization process conditions. These investigations will be continued and further results will be reported.
