## Abstract A novel rank‐revealing shielded‐block preconditioner that accelerates the iterative integral‐equation‐based analysis of wave propagation in electromagnetic crystal (EC) devices is presented. The proposed shielded‐block preconditioner exploits the bandgap character of the background elec
