Abstract

Investigations on a dual‐band monopole antenna with a slot cut in the ground plane have been proposed for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. The proposed antenna has a low protruding profile only 2 mm above the ground plane, thus allowing it to suitably integrate with the supporting metal frame of the laptop display. Good impedance matching can be achieved by adjusting antenna height and choosing adequate cutting slot position and size in the ground plane. It can provide two separate impedance bands for 2.4 and 5.2/5.8 GHz, making it easily covers the required bandwidths for WLAN operation. Details of the proposed antenna design and measured results are presented and discussed. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
