โœฆ Synopsis

It is shown that, to obtain higher sensitivity in quantum experiments with test masses, an oscillator is more promising than a free mass. New methods of realization of mechanical rigidity with very low quantum noise are described. Possible schemes of quantum measurements based of these method are discussed.

We have measured the current fluctuations in a quantum dot using a quantum point contact as a charge detector. By determining the distribution function for the charge transferred through the quantum dot, we get access not only to the shot noise but also to higher order moments. The noise in the quan
