✦ Synopsis

The purpose of this paper is to present theoretical small signal analysis and some practical results of a low level, low frequency, parametric amplifier using the two side bands.

A specific circuit model is considered in detail. This circuit uses the nonlinear junction capacitance of two diodes connected in a bridge configuration. This capacitance and an additional choke are tuned to series resonance of the pump frequency.

A practical model of the analyzed circuit is built and experimental tests are carried out to determine the dependence of the output voltage on the pump voltage. The experimental results are found to be in reasonable agreement with the theory, never being off by more than a factor of two.
