About the Author
Eliza Lentzski is a historian with a passion for fiction. She comes from a unique writing perspective not only as an academic, but also because her independent research has utilized some of the best-known and loved lesbian pulp fiction novels from the 1950s and 1960s. She understands the long tradition of romance fiction and its importance in the lives of women readers. She writes love stories filled with angst, miscommunication, and the struggle to balance love and an ambitious career, whose characters ultimately reach a happy ending. Her writings appeal to lesbians interested in experiencing the romantic evolution of femme characters. Very often erotic literature for-women, by-women continues to focus on the dynamics of the butch/femme dichotomy. Femme/femme characterizations are avoided as they often play into more masculine fantasies of what lesbianism looks like. The insertion of butch and androgynous bodies into lesbian romance fiction is important in highlighting the diversity of the lesbian and bisexual community. However, the avoidance of femme/femme intimacy does a disservice to women variously labeled as οΏ½lipstickοΏ½ or οΏ½femme privileged.οΏ½ Femme women, both lesbians and bisexual, are often wrongly interpreted as wearing the clothes of the enemy, or trying to Pass as straight. Her writing validates the intimate and loving relationships between feminine-appearing women.
