โฆ Synopsis
Laparoscopic management of cholecystoenteric fistula
Sir I read with interest the recent article by Messrs Nixon and Mirghani (Br J Surg 1995; 82: 675-6) and congratulate them on their excellent preoperative diagnosis and management of the two patients, but these are not the first reported cases. They have been reported previously',', and a series of 12 intra-abdominal fistulas was presented to the Society of Minimally Invasive Surgeons (October 1994 in Berlin, Germany) by myself and coauthor R. J. E. Foley, that included seven cholecystoenteric fistulas, six of which were discovered incidentally during routine laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Laparoscopic repair is feasible in the majority of patients by means of endostapling devices or intracorporeal suturing.
