✦ Synopsis

Closely spaced electrodes in the basal scala tympani show especially at high frequencies rapid variation in the phase of the recorded CM along the array. In particular cases, outputs from electrodes close to the RW lag those from more distant electrodes. These results are interpreted in terms of a spatial filtering effect on the outputs of hair-cell generators, and they provide evidence of the shape of the distribution of the latter. The proposals are also consistent with results from two-tone interaction experiments.
