โœฆ Synopsis

Pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] pollen has been successfully stored for 2,615 and 2,911 days at -18ยฐ and -73 ยฐC, respectively, and continues to be viable. Viability of pollen stored at -73 ยฐC appears to be little affected either by pollen storage moisture contents below 7.2% or by storage in glass vial or zip-lock plastic bag containers. Pollen moisture content appears to be more critical for maintaining viability at -18ยฐC than at -73ยฐC. Glass vials appear to be more desirable for longer term (>3 years) storage at -18ยฐC.
