## Abstract Long‐term field observation of carbon dioxide concentrations in soil air and soil temperature and moisture was conducted in a forested (oak and Japanese larch) headwater basin. The soil CO~2~ concentration was measured monthly from the ground surface to a depth of 2 m using gas detectio
