β¦ Synopsis
EDITORIAL COMMENT: There is renewed interest among health professionals in pelvic floor exercises (PFE) in the treatment of urinary incontinence. With the rising cost of health care and the aging of the population in many countries of the world, new, less costly, effective treatments are urgently needed in the field of urogynecology. In this study, the authors found a satisfactory response in 50 % of patients, who, presumably, did not require expensive and potentially dangerous surgery at a later date. This study also demonstrates the need for an adequate trial of PFE in order to see improvement in those patients who have a delayed positive response to treatment. We hope to see the follow-up results of these same patients a few years hence to learn something about the long-term effectiveness of PFE.
