We have studied the dynamical properties ofthe Holstein model with a nonlinearphonon Hamiltonian. Using the translational invariance of the system we eliminate from the Hamiltonian the electronic degrees of freedom. The resulting Hamiltonian describes a displaced phonon variable coupled to a lattic
