✦ Synopsis
Chironomus th. thummi 9 x Ch. th. piger c, hybrid males were backcrossed with Ch. th. thummi females. The salivary gland chromosomes of both sexes of the backcross progeny were then studied in respect to their pairing behavior. Region D3d-g of chromosome III showed sex specific pairing. It is concluded that within this D3d-g region a male sex determiner of Ch. th. piger is located and that the male is the heterogametic sex.
