Living in a material world L et me tell you another story...in a company I know, its pumps were specifically designed for an application and worked acceptably for ten years. Then wear increased dramatically, parts started to fail and pump capacity was reduced significantly. Fortunately, the pumps were of the variable speed variety and the speed could be increased to provide the required flow. Unfortunately, the increased speed exacerbated the wear problem. The user started complaining about the poor quality and short part life. A service engineer was dispatched to site to investigate. Coincidentally it seems, the problems began when the user changed the process and the liquid properties. The liquid properties which warranted the original special pump design had disappeared; new liquid properties posed a completely new set of problems.
