Abstract
The kinetics of phase transformations taking place under conditions of superplastic flow in the matrix alloys of the AlβGe system was studied. It has been found that these alloys manifest superplasticity in the nonequilibrium state that is characterized by the presence of the metastable liquid phase in their structure. It is shown that the liquidβphase formation in the AlβGe alloys is due to the effect of contact melting. The time of existence of the liquid phase in these alloys correlates with the time of superplastic deformation. The liquidβphase formation is considered as a cause of superplasticity in the alloys under study. (Β© 2005 WILEYβVCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
