✦ Synopsis
The (liquid + liquid) phase equilibria of the binary closed-loop system {xc-(CH2)4O + (1x)H2O} and additionally the effect of small amounts of dissolved (NH4)2SO4 were investigated in the temperature range from 315.8 K to 405 K and at pressures up to 135 MPa. The measurements were performed in an optical high-pressure cell with magnetic stirring according to the synthetic method. Phase separation was detected by visual observation. The experimental p(T ) isopleths are presented and discussed. They show that the closed miscibility gap of the salt-free system disappears at (24.7 2 0.4)MPa where the loop degenerates to a point at (376.9 2 0.2)K and x 1 0.22. Thus the system corresponds to type-VI phase behaviour according to the classification of van Konynenburg and Scott. Added ammonium sulfate is shown to have a strong out-salting effect.
