A highly acldlc P-dlketone, 3-phenyl4benzoyl-%soxazolone (HPBI), was synthesized and the acid dlssoclatlon constant and the partltlon constant between an orgamc solvent and 0 1 M sodium perchlorate solution were determmed by a hqmd-hqmd dlstrlbutlon method The extraction of lanthamdes urlth HPBI was mvestlgated m the presence and absence of tn-n-octylphosphme oxide HPBI was found to be a very powerful extractant for lanthamdes owmg to its strong acldlty The acldlty and extractablhty are discussed on the basis of the molecular structure optlmlzed by a semi-empmcal MNDO/H calculation Keywords Extractlon, Lanthamdes

The enrichment of carboxylic acids using a supported liquid membrane was experimentally studied. A supported PTFE membrane was impregnated with a solution of tri-n-octylphosphine oxide (TOP01 dissolved in di-n-hexyl ether (DHE). TOP0 was found to he an effective extractant, especially for highly pol
