The coal gasifier includes the following. A line for conveying the raw material of coal, a pipeline connecting to the coal line for supplying inert gas (e.g., N2) immediately before the burner of the gasifier, a three-way valve arranged upstream the connection point, a bypass line for connecting the valve and hopper, a pressure detector for detecting the internal pressure of the gasifier, a means for detecting pressure drop between the burner and the pipeline, and a controller for intaking the signals form the detectors to determine any back flow from of the gas produced from the gasifier to the pipeline for switching the valve to inject the inert gas to the pipeline.
