✦ Synopsis

Halazepam, an 1,Cbenzodiazepine derivative, is used clinically as an anxiolytic agent1*2. At present tablets are the only dosage form available in the U.S.A. (Paxi-Pam@, 20 and 40 mg tablet).

We describe here a simple and rapid high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) procedure for halazepam. At present, a gas chromatographic (GC) method3v44 is the analytical procedure reported in the literature. For routine analysis in quality control, the GC method is time consuming compared to the HPLC method because of the long extraction procedure.
