3-hydroxy-benzo(a)pyrene (3-OH-B(a)P) and mutagenic activity in rat urine were determined after the oral administration of benzo(a)pyrene given in three repeated doses of 10, 20 and 50 pmol kg-'. The procedure for the determination of 3-OH-B(a)P consisted of enzymic hydrolysis, separation and HPLC-a

✦ Synopsis
The stability of the four benzojalpyrene-7,8,9,10-tetrahydrotetrols is investigated under hydrolysis conditions necessary to release the tetrols from haemoglobin. Two benzo[alpyrene (BP)-tetrols appeared to be rather stable under hydrolysis conditions, whereas two other BP-tetrols were unstable and were transformed (partially) into the former two tetrols. In addition a method of analysis of BP-tetrols hydrolysed from rat haemoglobin adducts of rats exposed to BP is indicated and discussed.

The aim of this study was to determine whether the micronucleus test, using the larvae of a lower invertebrate, the newt Pleurodeles waltl, is suitable for evaluating the overall genotoxicity of polluted water (AFNOR Standard, 1992). The study used the pollutant model benzo(a)pyrene (BaP). After hav
Administration of a Prudhoe Bay crude oil (PBCO) to rats has been shown to (a) inhibit platelet aggregation induced by adenosine diphosphate (ADP), arachidonic acid, or epinephrine and (b) induce benzo-a-pyrene hydroxylase (BPH) in the liver and small intestine. Maximum inhibition of aggregation (90
