โฆ Synopsis
A method is described for the measurement of the forces exerted on two spheres by liquid bridges of a di-n-butyl phthalate/liquid pa&in mixture suspended in water. The technique elimiites gravitational distortion, enables large spheres to be used, permits accurate measurements of bridge vols. and yields values of the variation of force with sphere separation. The maximum observed forces agree with the calculations of Fisher. Further measurements with a sphere and plate agree with the results of McFarlane and Tabor.

The effects of viscosity on the mechanical response of a liquid bridge are investigated in the case of small amounts of liquid axially strained between two moving spheres. An experimental setup allows the measurement of capillary and viscous forces exerted on the spheres as a function of the spheres
