The anisotropy, D(parallel)/D( perpendicular ), of water diffusion in fully hydrated bilayers of dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine at 29 degrees C has been measured by pulsed magnetic field gradient (pfg) NMR. By using NMR imaging hardware to produce magnetic field gradients in an arbitrary direction w

Probing lateral diffusion in lipid membr
✍ Konstantin Ulrich; Monica Sanders; Sergey Vasenkov 📂 Article 📅 2007 🏛 Elsevier Science 🌐 English ⚖ 182 KB

This work demonstrates the feasibility of noninvasive studies of diffusion on a submicrometer length scale in aligned model lipid membranes using pulsed field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance with ultrahigh (up to 35 T/m) gradient strength. Application of such gradients allows the use of sufficie
