✦ Synopsis
We propose a new electroabsorption modulator EAM structure where the linearity is impro¨ed by means of appropriately changing the absorption profile along the de¨ice length. As a practical implementation, a selecti¨e-area-grown MQW᎐EAM was in¨estigated. Compared with a con¨entional EAM, the linearity was impro¨ed by 3 dB reduction in IMD2 and 5 dB reduction in IMD3.
