β¦ Synopsis
Many complex technical economic problems encountered throughout the entire petroleum industry may be effectively evaluated by use of linear programming techniques. This method, especially when coupled with the use of modern high-speed digital computers, allows the solution of very complex problems which hitherto were unsolvable.
Typical of these problems is a relatively simple gasoline-blending, catalytic-reforming and finished-product-mix model which Richfield has employed to guide its refinery operations.
The matrix of this problem contained 27 equations and 66 variables.
