✦ Synopsis
Eight finite element test cases were produced for two-dimensional linear elastic fracture mechanics benchmark tests. All the finite element meshes were constructed with eight noded quadratic elements and the crack tip elements were modelled with the appropriate stress singularity using collapsed eight noded elements with the quarter-point mid-side node technique.
A detailed presentation of test cases for a centre cracked tension plate included eight tin&e element meshes with different mesh refinement and gradation details. Six methods of evaluating the crack tip parameter were used. These included the virtual crack extension, displacment and stress substitution, modified crack closure integral, closed-form displacement and line contour J-integral methods.
