✦ Synopsis
The standard procedure for administering the Multidimensional Scale for Rating Psychiatric Patients was revised by eliminating the interview and having ward personnel complete the entire scale solely on the basis of observation. These non-interview ratings were then compared with ratings obtained in the traditional manner by a psychiatrist-psychologist team which served as the standard of accuracy. The results indicated a considerable relationship between this revised method and the prescribed one. Several criticisms of the date which limit its generality were described. Hnwever, in those instances where certain practical considerations are primary, it was suggested that this revised procedure might serve as an approximate measure.
