Negative uniaxial crystals of parathymol, a polar Or = 2.4 D) trisubstituted benzene derivative, are found to have nonlinear optical (NLO) coefficients (d333, d3J1) = (1.1, 1.4) X 16' esu respectivelyiThe NLO results compare well with current microscopic models and predict that the spontaneous polarization is = 0.3 &/cm .
