The stress-intensity factor calibration of the double-torsion specimen is discussed. It is argued that accurate analysis requires an accurate description of the shape of the steady crack profile which evolves in a particular test. The line-spring model, which readily accommodates variable depth cracks in plates, is applied to a representative crack profile in the double torsion specimen.
