✦ Synopsis

A no¨el free-space radiation mode FSRM analysis for the polarized TE and TM facet reflecti¨ities of 2D cross-sectioned wa¨eguides offers an accurate means of designing multicoated laser and amplifier facets. It is clearly demonstrated that the common procedure of modeling the 2D wa¨eguide facet as a 1D problem significantly compromises the accuracy of reflecti¨ity calculations. We show that full 2D analyses should be undertaken for accurate design.
