โœฆ Synopsis

SHORTAGE of nicotine in soap-nicotine preparations as ordinarily found on the market led to an investigation of the ingredients, preparation, and methods of packing this product, which is used as an insecticide.

The nicotine content of hard soda soaps decreases very rapidly, but little or no change takes place in the nicotine content of soft soda or potassium soaps.

Retention of nicotine apparently depends on the physical condition of the soap; its decrease is attributed to chemical changes, probably also involving the fatty acids of the soap, and not to loss by volatilization.
