✦ Synopsis

The lighting segment excited by electrons from the field titania cathode is described. The titania cathode of the segment was made with suspension plasma spraying (SPS) technique. The segment had a triode configuration and its structure was mounted in a vacuum chamber. Operating tests reveal effective lighting properties of the segment, with very intense light emitted, although the uniformity of the distance of the extracting electrode from the surface of the cathode should be improved to assure evenly spread lighting of the phosphor over the whole cathode area. The tests proved the ability of the intensity of the light to be controlled by extracting electrode and anode electric potentials. The titania cathode made with SPS technique seems to be potentially good candidate to be applied in efficient lighting segments with field electron excitation mechanism.
