Abstract
Existing molecular models of the lightβtrapping effect are not suitable to explain particularities of this phenomenon. A resonant interaction is proposed between a selfβmodulated light pulse and thermally excited lattice standing waves. Such a mechanism leads to a double space periodicity of the βfilamentβ number as well as of the intensity of stimulated Brillouin and Raman scattering. Only thermal periodicity of this phenomena has been observed [5, 18, 19] which may be understood in terms of thermal expansion [15]. To proof the validity of the resonant mechanism some new experiments are suggested.
