Abstract
A new type of copolymer from paraβaminobenzoic acid and 6βaminohexanoic acid was obtained by reacting the monomers in four different mole ratios. The polycondensation was carried out at 80dΜC with triphenyl phosphite as the initiator in Nβmethylβ2 pyrrolidone/pyridine mixture. The molecular weights of unfractionated and fractionated samples were determined by light scattering techniques in solvents of varying refractive index. From the values of second virial coefficient it is concluded that the solvent power for copolymer increases with increasing aminohexanoic acid mole fraction in the case of dichloroacetic acid and trifluoroacetic acetic acid while in dimethyl acetamide it decreases.
