✦ Synopsis
Scotland awaits an announcement from the Scottish Office on the future of its Nursing and Midwifery Education. In the past two decades, significant advances have been made in the provision of library services to the professions through the Colleges of Nursing and Midwifery. There have been advances not only in stock provision, but also in the introduction of information technology, with almost every library using a state‐of‐the‐art library management system. Progress has also been made on staffing, grading and opening hours. The nursing/midwifery library service has benefited from support from the National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting for Scotland and active co‐operation between librarians in the subject area. This paper details achievements and speculates briefly on future possible provision.
