✦ Synopsis
As the volume of communication via the Internet by both social and business users continues to rocket upwards, attention has increasingly focused on the role played by Internet service providers (ISP's), in particular in relation to the postings made to the newsgroups and bulletin boards which they operate. Although there have been precedents set by the courts in various countries around the world (including the US and Germany), the UK has not had any case law on these issues.., until now. On 26 March 1999, Mr Justice Morland handed down a judgment in respect of a strike-out application which is likely to reverberate around the Internet community for some time to come.
