✦ Synopsis

Substitution of 5% of Zr by Ca in LiZr 2 (PO 4 ) 3 transforms the structure to that of rhombohedral NASICON to give a room-temperature bulk Li-ion conductivity Li β‰ˆ 1.2 Γ— 10 -4 S cm -1 , which is comparable to that of Li 1.3 Ti 1.7 Al 0.3 (PO 4 ) 3 now being used as a solid Li-ion separator in test cells of novel Li-ion batteries.

The solid electrolyte Li 2.8 Sc 1.8-y Y y Zr 0.2 (PO 4 ) 3 (where y = 0, 0.1) compounds were synthesized by a solid state reaction and studied by X-ray diffraction. At room temperature the compounds belong to orthorhombic symmetry (space group Pbcn) with four formula units in the unit cell. Elementa
